AIRLINE PASSENGER CHARGED WITH INTERFERING WITH FLIGHT CREW ORDERED HELD WITHOUT BOND
[CORPUS CHRISTI] - Eduardo Turnbull-Bolado, a passenger arrested for interfering with a Continental Airlines flight crew, has been ordered held in federal custody without bond pending further criminal proceedings, United States Attorney Don DeGabrielle announced today.
Turnbull-Bolado’s detention was ordered today by United States Magistrate Judge Janice Ellington after Turnbull-Bolado waived his right to a probable cause and detention hearing. The next step in the criminal prosecution is the presentation of evidence before a grand jury within 30 days of Turnbull-Bolado’s arrest for that body to decide whether and what if any charges will be formally brought against the defendant.
According the affidavit filed in support of the criminal complaint, Continental Airlines flight No. 2115, which originated in Monterrey, Mexico and was bound for Bush Intercontinental Airport in Houston, TX, made an emergency landing at the airport in Corpus Christi, TX after a passenger aboard the flight, identified as Eduardo Turnbull-Bolado, allegedly caused a disturbance and assaulted and struggled with a male flight attendant during the flight. The court found there was probable cause to believe that Turnbull-Bolado did assault or intimidate a member of the Continental flight crew and the case will be referred to a grand jury for its consideration.
The investigation leading to the criminal charges was conducted by Special Agents of the Corpus Christi office of the Federal Bureau of Investigation. The case will be prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Lance Duke.
Criminal complaints are merely allegations of criminal conduct, not evidence. A defendant is presumed innocent unless and until convicted through due process of law.
