LENGTHY CRIMINAL HISTORY EARNS MEXICAN NATIONAL LENGTHY PRISON TERM FOR ILLEGALLY RE-ENTERING THE U. S.
(BROWNSVILLE) A Mexican national, who illegally re-entered the United States after deportation and has a long criminal history, has been sentence to a lengthy prison term, United States Attorney Don DeGabrielle announced today.
Jonato Saenz-Rivera, 41, of Nuevo Laredo, Tamaulipas, Mexico, also known as Isaac Boruguez, was sentenced to federal prison today for a period of 104 months to be followed by deportation. Saenz-Rivera pleaded guilty to Illegal Re-entry After Removal in January, 2007. At today’s sentencing hearing, as she enumerated Saenz’s lengthy criminal history dating back to 1988 for possessing marijuana, thefts, criminal mischief, burglaries and prior immigration offenses, United States District Judge Hilda Tagle said, “If this does not show the fact that this defendant has no respect for the law, I don’t know what else does. ”
The charges leading to this conviction and sentence began when Saenz-Rivera was found at the Brownsville city jail on yet another state charge drug possession charge by immigration authorities conducting routine jail checks for illegal aliens under the Border Criminal Alien Program (“BORCAP”). The state charge was later dismissed.
